Authorities: Indiana man dead after snowmobile crash

WANATAH, Ind. (AP) - Authorities say a 41-year-old man is dead after a snowmobile that he was driving crashed into a parked semitrailer in LaPorte County.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources said Wednesday that Jason Beecher of Koontz Lake was found dead on Kaiser Farms property, near the west side of Wanatah. The agency said in a news release that an investigation found Beecher hit the rear part of the trailer at a high rate of speed.

According to the agency, the LaPorte County Coroner's Office believes that Beecher hit the trailer several hours before he was found by a Kaiser Farms employee. The state agency says Beecher wasn't wearing a helmet or any additional safety equipment.

The crash is being investigated by Indiana conservation officers and the coroner's office.
