2 ex-daycare workers ordered to pay $2.3M in boy's death

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. (AP) - Two former workers at a suburban Indianapolis day care where a 5-month-old boy died in 2013 have been order to pay the child's parents more than $2.3 million.

The Indianapolis Star reports (http://indy.st/1Tg95BR ) a Hamilton County judge ordered former day care operator Stacey Cox and her daughter, Kirsten Phillips, on Thursday to each pay $1.16 million to Conor Tilson's parents in their civil lawsuit.

Authorities said the child died in January 2013 at Cox's unlicensed home day care in Carmel after he was placed in a broken crib in a room with no adults and no baby monitor.

Phillips was sentenced in 2014 to three years' incarceration after a jury convicted her of reckless homicide and involuntary manslaughter in the boy's death. Cox was also convicted of involuntary manslaughter.
