Barrington, Fremd earn team spots at state finals

The girls gymnastics programs from Barrington and Fremd have earned spots in next week's state finals at Palatine.

The Fillies and Vikings needed to wait until all four of the qualifying sectionals were completed Thursday night, with the final meet being hosted by Glenbard West.

DeKalb won it with a score of 147.275.

Barrington and Fremd needed to be among the four best team scores from the sectional meets, excluding the winners, who automatically advance to state.

Glenbard West earned the top at-large state berth after scoring 146.75 on Thursday.

Next are Barrington (144.950) and Mid-Suburban League champ Fremd (144.600). The final at-large berth goes to Lake Park, which placed third at Glenbard West with 144.350.

Schaumburg sectional champion Prairie Ridge has the top qualifying score (149.550), and Downers Grove South (143.875) and Carmel Catholic (146.275) also advanced automatically as sectional winners.
