Granite City woman sentenced for health care fraud

EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP) - A 28-year-old Granite City woman has been sentenced to five years of probation after she admitted to submitting false bills for home care for her mother.

Jessica A. Teets was sentenced Tuesday in U.S. District Court in East St. Louis. She also was ordered to pay nearly $1,300 in restitution to the Illinois Home Services program.

The Medicaid waiver program is designed to help people stay out of nursing homes by offering care in their homes.

Teets' mother was found July 1, 2014, incoherent and partially covered in dried excrement by a friend checking on her welfare. She was hospitalized for several days. Teets had not performed personal assistant services for her mother for more than a week before that.
