Aurora drug dealer sentenced to 20 years

An Aurora man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for possessing more than $1 million worth of cocaine.

Jesus Montes, 45, agreed to the sentence in exchange for a guilty plea to unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, according to a news release from the Kane County state's attorney's office.

On March 11, 2014, Kane County sheriff's police found a duffle bag in the garage of Montes' home containing more than 16 kilos of cocaine with an approximate value of $1.6 million, according to the release.

"Inside the home the deputies found materials consistent with drug dealing, including ledgers, packaging materials and cutting agents and more than $200,000 in cash," the release continued.

Montes was given credit for the 702 days he has served in Kane County jail since his arrest.

"Montes was part of a larger-scale drug operation that was poisoning the neighborhoods of Aurora. His conviction is a victory for the citizens of Kane County," said State's Attorney Joe McMahon in the release.
