Orioles LHP Britton accepts 1-year deal, avoids arbitration

BALTIMORE (AP) - Orioles closer Zach Britton has agreed to terms on a $6.75 million contract for 2016, avoiding arbitration.

The agreement was reached Friday. Britton was asking for $7.9 million and Baltimore countered with a $5.6 million offer before a compromise was reached.

He made $3,525,000 last season.

Britton was the last player on the team eligible for arbitration.

Over the last two seasons, Britton has 73 saves in 81 opportunities.

Formerly a starter, Britton is 25-20 with 73 saves and a 3.70 ERA over his five-year career.
