Suburban Indianapolis teenager sentenced in murder
NOBLESVILLE, Ind. (AP) - A teenager from an Indianapolis suburb has been sentenced to 80 years in prison for killing a 73-year-old man.
According to the Indianapolis Star (http://indy.st/23OsSMz ), 18-year-old Maxwell Winkler of Fishers was sentenced Friday in Hamilton County Court as part of a plea agreement.
Winkler pleaded guilty in early January to murder in the death of Henry Kim.
Authorities say Kim was shot three times and his throat was cut on Nov. 1, 2014, in a Fishers subdivision where both he and Winkler lived. Winkler was 17 at the time.
Winkler's attorneys pursued an insanity defense but he was ruled competent to stand trial.
Under Indiana law Winkler will have to serve at least 75 percent of his sentence. That would be 60 years.
