Arlington Heights church collecting food on "Soup-er Bowl Sunday"

Quest Church in Arlington Heights is taking a different approach to Super Bowl Sunday this weekend. During their normal worship gathering at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, the church will hold "Soup-er Bowl Sunday" with a variety of soups and breads for people to enjoy.

They are encouraging everyone who comes to bring a can of soup or other nonperishable food item with them to be donated to the Wheeling Township Food Pantry.

The church also is asking anyone hosting or going to a Super Bowl party to collect canned goods and drop them off, during the following Sunday's service at Quest Church, 111 W. Olive St.

Church officials said they are hoping to collect at least 330 pounds of canned goods for those in need.

"We're trying to figure out the best ways to impact our community and have fun doing it," said Ed Taylor, lead pastor.

Some of the most needed items at the food pantry are: packets of rice, soup, beans, beef stew, jelly, juice, canned meat products (chicken, hash, ham, tuna), peanut butter, spaghetti sauce and canned vegetables.

From January through September 2015, the Wheeling Township Food Pantry pantry served 3,914 households and 8,888 individuals, according to a news release.
