Indiana girl, 4, and her grandfather die in rural house fire

HAGERSTOWN, Ind. (AP) - Authorities say a young girl and her grandfather died when an early morning fire gutted a rural home in eastern Indiana.

Henry County Coroner Steve Hacke tells The Star Press (http://tspne.ws/1TDcOZx ) 4-year-old Jenna L. Dale died early Wednesday at a New Castle hospital after firefighters removed her from the burning home.

Firefighters were unable to reach her 52-year-old grandfather, Michael Dale, who also died in the fire.

Liberty Township Volunteer Fire Department Chief Jimmy Raines says the house just south of Indiana 38 near Hagerstown was fully involved when firefighters arrived shortly after the 1 a.m. call.

Firefighters remained on the scene Wednesday morning along with the state fire marshal.

An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the fire about 45 miles east of Indianapolis.
