Chicago Samba coming to Arlington Heights Feb. 7

Carnival season in Brazil is Hot! Hot! Hot!

The samba schools practice their wild rhythms and transfixing chants for months, and then they parade for days with outrageously colorful costumes in their final frenzy of pre-Lenten celebration. But you won't have to go to Rio to see it.

On the Sunday before Lent, Chicago Samba musicians and dancers will be singing, dancing and parading in Arlington Heights. Chicago Samba is a group of Brazilians in Chicago who, for the past 23 years, have been bringing virtuoso Brazilian music and dancing to audiences throughout the Midwest.

The concert will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 7, at Forest View Educational Center Theater, 2121 S. Goebbert Road. Tickets are $20. Youths through high school are free with a paying adult. Tickets are available at the door, online at www.nscommunityconcerts.org, or by calling (847) 718-7702.

The performance is presented by the Northwest Suburban Community Concert Association in partnership with the District 214 Community Education. It is the third concert of the 2015-2016. Season will feature Chicago Samba.

The season also will feature the award-winning chamber musicians of the Avalon String Quartet on Sunday, April 17, and the History of Ragtime with Reginald Robinson on Sunday, May 15. More information is at www.nscommunityconcerts.org.
