Kelly says tight end Luatua transferring from Notre Dame

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) - Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly says tight end Tyler Luatua will transfer at the end of the spring semester.

The 6-foot-3, 255-pound sophomore from Paramount, California, started three games for the Irish and played in 20 games overall, but had no catches. He was used primarily as a blocker in multiple tight end sets. He also played on special teams.

The Irish have three other returning tight ends who also have started: Durham Smythe, Nic Weishar and Alize Jones. With Smythe missing most of the season with knee and shoulder injuries, the Irish tight ends had just 20 catches. That's the fewest in a season by Notre Dame since 2001.
