Pelicans beat Nets 105-103 on Holiday's winning jumper
NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Jrue Holiday hit a 15-foot shot with 1.3 seconds remaining and the New Orleans Pelicans held off the Brooklyn Nets, 105-103 on Saturday night.
New Orleans' Anthony Davis scored 20 points and grabbed 16 rebounds in his first game back after sitting out with a concussion. Davis started 0 for 10 from the floor before finding his rhythm.
The Pelicans (18-28) and Davis were helped by Ryan Anderson's 24 points off the bench. Holiday's final shot gave him a team-best 26 points, and he finished with seven assists.
Brooklyn (12-36), meanwhile, lost for the third straight game and allowed an opponent to shoot 44 percent or better for the 12th consecutive game.
Brook Lopez scored 33 points and had 10 rebounds to lead the Nets. Wayne Ellington added 18 points.
Davis didn't start his first game looking like he was ready to return, but in the second half, the fourth year forward showed why he's making his third-straight All-Star appearance. And, New Orleans needed his help in the second half.
Brooklyn had answers for every first-half run by New Orleans and took a 51-44 lead into halftime. The Nets shot 52 percent in the first 24 minutes and led despite forcing only one turnover.
Davis got going after halftime, though. He went 6 for 10 in the third quarter and scored New Orleans' first eight points of the half. He also brought Pelicans fans to their feet with dunks.
But it was Holiday who sealed the win. Holiday scored 16 fourth-quarter points, including the final seven for New Orleans.
TIP-INS
Nets: Brooklyn is 2-7 in the second game of back-to-backs. ... The Nets finished January 3-13. ... For just the second time this month, Brooklyn hit at least six 3-pointers in a game, finishing with nine.
Pelicans: New Orleans finished with 11 3-pointers and has made at least 10 in seven consecutive games. ... The Pelicans had fewer than 10 turnovers for the 13th time this season and are 8-5 in those games.
NETS BENCH BREAKS OUT
A night after Brooklyn's backups scored just two points on one fourth-quarter basket, they got back on track against the Pelicans. Shane Larkin and Thomas Robinson combined for 15 second-quarter points and the bench finished with 24. The big night came after Brown said he spoke to the reserves about playing better when they're in the game.
ANDERSON REMAINS HOT OFF BENCH
Anderson continues to give his team a lift off the bench. He scored at least 21 points for the fourth straight game, three times coming as a reserve. Anderson scored 11 second-half points, including shooting 3 of 4 from 3-point range.
