Hersey tops Elk Grove, pulls into second-place MSL East tie
Hersey pulled into a tie for second place in the Mid-Suburban East boys basketball race with Elk Grove by edging out the visiting Grenadiers 55-54 on Friday.
Zack Cooper and Kevin Starr had 12 points apiece for the Huskies, and Joe Coffaro contributed 11 points.
Joe Gatziolis led all scorers with 21 points for Elk Grove (11-8, 5-2), and Fulton Wingba had 11.
Hersey (10-10, 5-2) will host first-place Prospect next Friday in a game slated for a 6 p.m. tip.
Rolling Meadows 64, Buffalo Grove 52: Jared Murphy went 12-for-12 at the foul line and finished with a game-high 21 points as the host Mustangs prevailed in MSL East action.
John Lothery had 15 points and Jack Schoessling contributed 12 for Meadows (5-14, 2-5). Murphy scored 14 of his points in the second half.
Joey Pinakidis scored 13 points to lead Buffalo Grove (7-13, 2-5), and Jack Vaselaney scored 12.
Meadows shot 21-for-23 at the free throw line, while the Bison made 3 of 11.
St. Viator 66, Marian Central 55: The Lions picked up an East Suburban Catholic victory on the road to improve to 14-4 overall and 3-1 in the league.
Marian Central falls to 13-6 and 1-4.
Niles North 57, Maine West 46: The visiting Vikings improved to 17-6 overall and 5-2 in the Central Suburban North as the Warriors slipped to 3-18, 1-6.
