Lake Park's Bogus earns Daily Herald MVP acclaim
Lake Park senior Kenny Bogus has earned Daily Herald MVP honors for his recent high school boys basketball performances.
Kenny Bogus, Lake Park: The 6-foot-5 senior led the Lancers to a pair of victories that kept them in a first-place tie in the DuPage Valley Conference. Bogus scored 20 points, grabbed 6 rebounds, dished 6 assists and blocked 5 shots in a 44-43 win over Neuqua Valley, then tallied 21 points, 4 rebounds and 4 blocks in a 51-47 win over Naperville Central.
Michael Downing, Conant: Downing gave Conant a big lift in a victory over Barrington which helped the Cougars cement their spot atop the Mid-Suburban West. The 6-foot-6 junior forward contributed a career-best 19 points as Conant topped the Broncos 68-41 to stretch their conference lead to 2 games.
Cameron Krutwig, Jacobs: This 6-foot-8 junior's old-fashioned three-point play in the waning seconds of regulation against Cary-Grove forced overtime, and he scored 6 of his 17 points in the extra session to lift the Golden Eagles to a 52-50 win. He also contributed 13 rebounds and 5 blocked shots. The next day against Libertyville he scored 19 points, grabbed 17 rebounds and blocked 5 more shots to lead Jacobs (15-3) to a 61-50 win.
Sam Ruhlmann, Grayslake Central: The 6-foot-3 senior forward/guard showed off his versatility and athleticism in a 69-54 loss to Grayslake North, scoring both inside and outside. He poured in a career-high 32 points (two 3-pointers) on 14-of-23 shooting and grabbed 6 rebounds. He also scored 18 points in a 48-30 win over Dundee-Crown last week.
