Teen charged as adult in shooting at Lawrence high school

LAWRENCE, Ind. (AP) - A 17-year-old boy has been charged as an adult in the shooting of a 15-year-old boy outside a suburban Indianapolis high school gymnasium during a boys basketball game.

Paul Rayner was charged Monday with criminal recklessness, carrying a handgun without a license and dangerous possession of a firearm. The Lawrence North High School student is accused of shooting the Lawrence Central High School student in the leg Friday night at Lawrence Central during a basketball game against Warren Central High School.

The 15-year-old was taken to a local hospital and is expected to recover.

Police say Rayner admitted to firing shots outside the school when he was brought to the Lawrence Police Department the following day.

Both teens told police that their friends have been involved in a dispute for over a year.
