Jahnke generates winning effort at Concordia College

Former Grant basketball standout Morgan Jahnke was honored by Concordia College in River Forest as the school's Female Athlete of the Week.

She averaged a team-leading 13 points in games against Benedictine University and the Milwaukee School of Engineering. The 5-foot-9 guard is currently tied for third in the conference for steals and tied for 10th in assists.

Jahnke is a senior in the secondary education program with a specialization in physical education.

Women's cross country

Illinois Wesleyan senior Amanda Macuiba (Warren) was chosen as the "Hardest Worker" for the 2015 cross country team.

She earned all-conference honors finishing sixth in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin meet with a time of 22:57.7.

Macuiba also placed 44th at the NCAA Division III regional with a time of 22:38.

Men's hockey

The Lake Zurich-Mundelein-Wauconda Varsity team is in first place in the Platinum regular season standings (7-2-2) following a 5-0 win over host Lane Tech at the Edge Ice Arena in Bensenville.

LZMW forward Kolby Lapple collected a hat trick while goalie Jake Breitenreiter recorded the shutout.

There is one more divisional game with PREP Black this Sunday, Jan. 31, to determine whether if the LZ-Mund-Wauc. varsity can complete the regular season with the best record in the division and cement the No. 1 seed for the conference playoffs.

In the playoffs, all seven Platinum Varsity teams play each other once and the top two point-getters will advance to the Platinum championship at West Meadows Ice Arena at 4:30 p.m. on Feb 28.

Men's track

Augustana sophomore Kevin Barbian (Libertyville) led a contingent of Vikings' throwers who claimed spots two through five in the shot put at Monmouth College's Midwest Invitational.

Barbian's toss of 48 feet, 8¼ inches was good for second.

Barbian (48-2) was also fourth in the weight throw.

• Augustana's Evan Murphy (Buffalo Grove) grabbed second place in the triple jump with a mark of 43-1¾.

NSC cheerleading

Stevenson was the overall champion of the North Suburban Conference cheerleading championship at Antioch High School and hosted by Lakes Community High School.

The top three finishers in the Prairie division were Grant, Wauconda and Lakes while the Lake division's top three were Stevenson, Lake Zurich and Mundelein.

Women's basketball

Augustana freshman Carly McCameron (Antioch) and junior Olivia Mayer (Libertyville) each had key baskets for the Vikings (8-10, 3-4) in a 73-70 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin loss to visiting Illinois Wesleyan.

Mayer, who has a team-high 55 assists this season, scored 11 points when the Vikings came back for a 65-59 CCIW win over visiting Millikin.

Women's track

Augustana freshman Laura McNair (Lake Zurich) was part of the winning distance medley team (13:30.69) at the Midwest Invitational in Monmouth.

Vikings sophomore Emily Webster (Lakes) was fifth in the weight (41-11) and sixth in the shot (36-2).
