Fallen power line shuts down Rt. 21

A downed power line shut down Route 21 in Libertyville Monday evening and knocked out power to more than 250 people for more than three hours, fire officials said.

A primary power line went down about 6 p.m. across Route 21 between Winchester and Peterson roads, Libertyville Fire Lt. Bill Bending said.

"It was arcing the road, but that was about it," Bending said. "It was just a good show."

Nobody was injured and nothing caught on fire as a result, he said. Fire officials weren't sure what caused the line to go down.

Route 21 was closed for more than a half-hour while ComEd responded. Power remained out three hours later for more than 250 customers, according to the ComEd outage map.
