Schaumburg Library Invites High School Parents and Students To FAFSA and Scholarship Programs

To help parents and students combat the exorbitant cost of college, the Schaumburg Township District Library will hold two college finance programs in February. Both are free and take place in the Teen Place on the second floor of the library, 130 S. Roselle Rd., Schaumburg. Parents and high school students are welcome to attend.

Experts from the Illinois Student Assistance Commission will help families complete their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) during the "FAFSA Drop-in" from 10:30 a.m. - noon on Saturday, Feb. 6. Those seeking assistance should bring their most current tax forms, W2s, account information for CDs, bonds/stock, money market, social security numbers, and dates of birth, marriage or divorce (if applicable). The FAFSA is part of the U.S. Department of Education and provides federal grants, loans and work-study funds. For information on FAFSA deadlines, go to fafsa.ed.gov. No registration is required for the "FAFSA Drop-in."

Parents and high school students seeking information on college scholarships can get valuable tips from "The Scholarship Search," scheduled from 10:30 a.m. - noon, Saturday, Feb. 20. An expert from the Illinois Student Assistance Commission will guide participants through online resources designed to lighten the college financial load. Registration is required.
