Missing McHenry teen found shot in Phoenix; suspect dead

PHOENIX (AP) - Police say a teenage girl reported missing in Illinois was found shot in Phoenix and the man she was believed to be with has taken his own life.

Sgt. Vincent Lewis says the 16-year-old, who is from McHenry County, was in extremely critical condition Saturday and not expected to survive.

Police were checking on a possible location for her and her boyfriend, 24-year-old Alexander O'Neill, Friday night when the shooting occurred.

According to Lewis, officers went to a home near 43rd Avenue and Cactus Road twice.

They were speaking with O'Neill's parents outside the door during the second visit when shots were heard.

Lewis says officers found the girl critically injured and O'Neill with a fatal, self-inflicted wound.

Police did not release the teen's identity.

The shooting remains under investigation.

This story has been corrected to say victim was from McHenry County, not McHenry as originally stated by Phoenix police.
