State police involved in fatal officer-involved shooting

HURST, Ill. (AP) - Illinois State Police say they are investigating an officer-involved shooting in the southern Illinois community of Hurst that left one person dead.

In a news release late Thursday, authorities say a preliminary investigation shows police were searching for a suspect wanted on a felony warrant for a robbery in Carterville when they found the suspect at a home. Police allege the suspect showed a handgun and officers shot their firearms and hit him.

The suspect was transported to a local hospital and pronounced dead. The shooting happened at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday.

The ISP Division of Internal Investigations is helping conduct the investigation.

Authorities didn't offer further information.
