Woman dies after Winchester Road crash with semi

A woman has died from injuries suffered Monday when her car collided with a semitrailer truck on Winchester Road near Grayslake, according to the Lake County coroner.

Juana Bauer, 54, died as a result of multiple traumatic injuries from the crash, Coroner Thomas Rudd said Wednesday.

Bauer's hometown was not immediately available. Grayslake Fire Protection District officials said she was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where she had been listed in critical condition.

Authorities said Bauer was driving about 9 a.m. Monday on Winchester Road at Route 83 near Grayslake when her vehicle collided with the truck. The semi driver was uninjured, officials said.

A second serious crash occurred nearby a short time later while Lake County sheriff's police were on the scene investigating the collision and directing traffic.

Authorities said a sheriff's deputy who was driving an unmarked SUV on Winchester about 10:45 a.m. was broadsided by a pickup truck while attempting to turn onto Midlothian Road.

The deputy suffered a concussion and other injuries, authorities said. The other driver was not injured.
