Trial set for woman accused of stabbing Chicago-area teacher

CHICAGO (AP) - An Ohio woman accused of stabbing a Catholic high school teacher to death in his suburban Chicago home is scheduled to go on trial this week.

Twenty-two-year-old Alisha Walker of Akron, Ohio, is charged with murder. Her attorney, Patrick O'Byrne, says she acted in self-defense.

Sixty-one-year-old Al Filan was found dead at his home in Orland Park, Illinois, in January 2014 by officers conducting a well-being check after he hadn't been seen for three days.

Filan was stabbed more than a dozen times, including in his ear and chest.

He headed the business studies department at Chicago's Brother Rice High School.

Prosecutors say Walker went to Filan's home after he solicited her for sex on a website used for prostitution.

The Daily Southtown reports (http://trib.in/1Rfw4MN ) that jury selection begins Monday.
