Snow, high winds create problems across Indiana

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Several inches of snow and high winds have created problems for motorists and others across Indiana.

The National Weather Service says snowfall totals Sunday morning included 4 inches in Ellettsville in south central Indiana and about 2ˆ½ inches at Evansville Regional Airport. It predicted lake-effect snow showers of up to 3 inches would be driven by winds gusting as high as 40 mph in northern Indiana later Sunday.

The Indiana Department of Transportation says strong winds snapped a utility pole and shut down the intersection of U.S. Routes 20 and 421 in Michigan City.

Power companies reported scattered outages affecting a few thousand customers across the state Sunday morning.

Indiana State Police say crashes on Interstate 69 near Muncie included a jackknifed semitrailer blocking both northbound lanes.
