Local Children's Author Liesl Shurtliff Visits Palatine Library January 16

Liesl Shurtliff, Chicago author of Rump: The True Story of Rumpelstiltskin visits Palatine Library to engage aspiring young writers (grades three and up) in two afternoon programs on January 16: Story Factory Workshop, and Meet the Author.

At these programs kids can meet and interact with, Shurtliff, a 2016 Illinois Bluestem Award Nominee and 2016 Rebecca Caudill Award Nominee, while she helps to enhance their writing abilities and shares the background behind writing Rump. From 1:00 - 1:45 p.m. in the Story Factory Workshop, young writers explore plot and character, while creating a group story under Shurtliff's direct guidance. Afterwards, kids will Meet Author Liesl Shurtliff, from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m., and learn about the author and her writing techniques for Rump, in which she wrote the story from the troublemaker's point of view. Following the program, books will be available for purchase and autographing.

Both programs are for Grades 3-6. To sign up, please call 847-358-5881, x132 or visit www.palatinelibrary.org.

Shurtliff has also written two other fairy tales that take place in the same world as Rump-Jack: The True Story of Jack and the Beanstalk, and Red: The True Story of Red Riding Hood, which will be published later this year.
