Fremd claims nonconference win at Huntley
Fremd's boys basketball team started the new year with a 60-39 victory over host Huntley on Tuesday in nonconference play.
Patrick Benka led the way for the Vikings (12-4) with a game-high 20 points while Payton Kim contributed 12 and Brian Dompke 10.
"I thought we shared the ball really well," said Fremd coach Bob Widlowski. "It was a very efficient performance offensively."
Samson Oladimeji had 6 points for Fremd, and Kyle Sliwa and Ryan Martin both had 4.
Niles North 70, Prospect 64: The visiting Knights managed to shoot 53 percent from the field in nonconference play on the road.
But the host Vikings shot it at a 56-percent clip to claim the victory and snap a three-game winning streak for Prospect.
Senior guard Crishawn Cook finished with a game-high 23 points to lead Niles North.
Prospect (8-6) got 19 points from Michael Ritchie, 14 from Frankie Mack and 10 from David Swedura.
Matt Szuba had a game-high 9 rebounds for the Knights, and Antonio Gardner led the way for Prospect with 5 assists.
Palatine 51, Vernon Hills 42: Senior guard Chris Refka scored a team-high 17 points and sophomore forward Johnny O'Shea had 13 as the host Pirates (11-4) won their third straight in nonconference play.
Charlie Van Dyke and Matt Ulrich both made a pair of 3s and finished with 8 points for the Pirates, who overcame a 12-6 deficit after the first quarter by outscoring the Cougars (7-8) in each of the final three periods.
Vernon Hills' Michael Dougherty led all scorers with 21 points.
Hoffman Estates 48, Streamwood 46: The visiting Hawks (7-9) won for the fourth time in five games with a nonconference victory against the Sabres.
