Minor injuries in crash with school bus, 3 other vehicles in Grayslake

Three people suffered minor injuries in separate but related crashes involving four vehicles in Grayslake, authorities said Tuesday.

Grayslake police said they were summoned at 8:15 a.m. to Rollins Road between Hook Drive and Drury Lane on a report of a crash involving a school bus that had rolled onto its side. No students were on the bus, but two adults aboard suffered minor injuries, according to authorities.

Both adults used an emergency hatch to exit the bus. Police would not specify in which vehicle the third injured person was found. All three were treated at the scene, according to Grayslake police officer Randy Hegland.

Police said the crash occurred when a vehicle driven by a 25-year-old Ingleside man, who was eastbound on Rollins Road, lost control while attempting to pass another eastbound vehicle. The Ingleside man's vehicle crossed into westbound lanes, struck the school bus and caused it to roll over on the side, police side.

Grayslake authorities said this crash led to a secondary collision between two vehicles.

The Ingleside driver was cited for driving too fast for conditions. Police did not immediately release his name.

Paramedics from the Grayslake and Greater Round Lake fire protection districts treated those who were injured. Authorities said the area of Rollins Road where the two crashes occurred was closed for a short time to allow for vehicle removal.
