Wheeling hiking water, sewer rates about 3 percent

Wheeling residents will see about a 3 percent increase in water and sewer rates starting in January.

The increase means a residents using the average 7,000 gallons of water a month will pay an additional $1.47 each month. That adds up to a yearly increase of $17.64 from 2015 water and sewer bills.

Village staff says the increase will help operate and maintain the water and sewer system, and help maintain the minimum 25 percent fund balance reserve.

The 2016 increase is less than the 4.3 percent increase from 2014 to 2015.
