Sheriff identifies 'people of interest' in Lake County shooting

Lake County Sheriff's detectives have identified "more than one" person of interest in an early Christmas morning shooting near Lake Bluff that injured two men and a woman, authorities said.

No one is in custody Friday afternoon as detectives continue to canvass the area and search for surveillance video of a fight that spilled out of Nardo's BBQ Bar & Grill about 1:30 a.m. Friday, Detective Christopher Covelli said.

Investigators say a "heated argument" began inside the bar involving multiple people, Covelli said. The fight then moved outside of the building at 5 N. Skokie Highway in an unincorporated area near Lake Bluff, where multiple shots were fired.

It is unknown if there was more than one shooter, but two men and a woman were hit and injured, and bullets also damaged vehicles and surrounding property, Covelli said. One of the men was struck in the back and the other in the leg. The woman was shot in the back.

By Friday afternoon, Covelli said one of the injured men - the one whose leg was injured - had been released from the hospital. The man who was shot in the back and the woman remained hospitalized but are expected to survive.

Covelli said anyone who saw the shooting is asked to contact the sheriff's criminal investigations division at (847) 377-4250.
