Foreign Film Sundays starts with 'Departures' at Geneva library

See the 2009 Academy Award winner for best foreign film, "Departures" by director Yojiro Takita, from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 17, at the Geneva Public Library, 127 James St.

In the film, which the late film critic Roger Ebert gave four stars and showcased at the 2010 Eberfest, a recently unemployed cellist moves back to his childhood home with his wife and ends up taking a job as a funeral professional who prepares deceased bodies for burial and entry into the next life. The PG-13 film is sponsored by the International Cultural Exchange Committee and the viewing will be followed by a discussion.
