Schaumburg marching band playing in Sugar Bowl

The Schaumburg High School Saxons Marching Band will travel to New Orleans during winter break to perform at the 2016 Allstate Sugar Bowl on New Year's Day in the Mercedes Benz Superdome.

In all, 140 band members will be making the trip from Dec. 28 through Jan. 2, participating in five performances in New Orleans.

On Dec. 30, the band will perform two concerts in downtown New Orleans at the Riverwalk Gazebo and in picturesque Jackson Square. Later that evening, the Schaumburg High School Jazz Ensemble will play for patrons on the dock of the Steamboat Natchez on the Mississippi River.

On New Year's Eve, the band will march along Decatur Street in the inaugural Sugar Bowl New Year's Eve Parade.

Finally, on Jan. 1, the Saxons will perform the music of Louis Prima, along with 11 other high school bands from around the country, in a combined halftime show at the Sugar Bowl.
