Possibly damaging thunderstorms, winds tonight

The National Weather Service warns of possibly dangerous thunderstorms and winds tonight throughout the suburbs.

A wind advisory is in effect starting at 6 tonight and lasts until 3 a.m. Thursday. It warns of sustained winds of 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.

The service further warns of thunderstorms continuing through early this evening with wind gusts of more than 60 mph.

Water levels will remain high on area rivers including the Fox and DuPage, tonight and over the next couple of days.

While high temperatures approached record levels today, they're expected to dip into the 30s overnight.

Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are expected to be dry and pleasant with highs of 46 degrees and 44 degrees respectively, according to AccuWeather.

Normal temperatures for this time of year would be 33 degrees. The record high for Dec. 23 before today was 60 degrees in 1980, AccuWeather says.
