Batavia wins Marian Catholic tournament crown

The Batavia girls basketball team bounced back from its Friday night loss to rival Geneva in a big way on Saturday.

Hannah Frazier scored 35 points and had 7 rebounds as the Bulldogs defeated Marian Catholic 53-42 to win the championship of the Marian Catholic tournament.

Frazier was named MVP of the tournament after scoring 111 points in the four tourney games.

Mackenzie Foster added 5 assists for Batavia (12-2) Saturday, while Geddy Rerko was also named to the all-tournament team.

The Bulldogs are off until Dec. 26 when they face Kenwood in the opening round of the Montini tournament.

Larkin 60, Deerfield 43: In the opening round of the Blue Devil Classic at Warren, Larkin got 24 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists from Marlee Kyles and 13 points and 12 rebounds from Shawniece Douglas to post the win. Haley Bohne added 10 points for the Royals (4-8) and Sam Wahl had 9.

CL South wins twice: At the Northern Illinois Holiday Classic, the Gators defeated Belvidere 37-19 and Marian Central 60-40 to finish second in their pool. Taylor Josefowicz had 11 points with Annika Sevcik (8 rebounds) and Chanel Fanter scoring 6 each in the win over Belvidere. Against Marian, Crystal Lake South (9-4) was led by Fanter with 22 points and 8 assists. Annalisa Toricio added 13 points and Sevcik had 10 points and 8 rebounds.

Kaneland takes 2: Playing in the Ottawa tournament, the Knights defeated Geneseo 44-32 and Sandwich 40-24 to run their record to 8-1 for the season. Against Geneseo, Morgan Weber had 11 points and Vanessa Gould 9 for Kaneland. In the win over Sandwich, Camri Conley scored 11 points and Bailey Crimmins added 9.

Harvest Christian 51, Maine East 48: Katie Kaldenberger (9 points) hit a 3-pointer with 2 seconds left in the game to lift Harvest to a win in the first round of the St. Viator tournament. Alyssa Iverson led the Lions (9-4) with 18 points and Paulina Castro added 7.
