District 211 board lauds alumnus for military service

High School District 211 has a tradition of honoring alumni for the service they have given to their country.

Private First Class Arian Brown, a 2015 graduate of Hoffman Estates High School currently serving in the Illinois National Guard, was honored and thanked for his service by the board of education at its Dec. 10, 2015, meeting.

Brown is the 11th alumnus to be recognized for his service by the board, and he started the meeting by leading the Pledge of Allegiance.

Following his high school graduation, Brown attended both basic training and advanced individual training at Fort Benning, Georgia. He completed his military training in October 2015. Since then, he has served one weekend per month in the Illinois National Guard, working with the infantry division. In February 2016, Brown will report to Fort Polk, Louisiana, for his annual service assignment.

"I enlisted because my grandfather was in the service," Brown said. "I also had several other family members who served our country in various branches of the military, and I am proud to follow in their footsteps."

Brown's goals included attending college and ultimately pursuing a career in law enforcement.

The board of education will continue Military Recognitions for District 211 graduates who are serving in the military.
