Texas Tech suspends receiver, 3 players transferring

LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) - Texas Tech coach Kliff Kingsbury has indefinitely suspended his second-best receiver and will lose three defensive players to transfers.

A release from the athletic department says Devin Lauderdale's suspension is for a "failure to uphold" school expectations for its athletes. The junior from Houston will have a chance to rejoin the team next season.

In nine games, Lauderdale caught 43 passes for 639 yards and four touchdowns.

Defensive lineman Mike Mitchell and defensive backs Jalen Barnes and Derrick Dixon, all sophomores, will transfer.

Mitchell played in nine games this season, Barnes played in five and Dixon played in three.

The Red Raiders play No. 20 LSU in the Texas Bowl on Dec. 29.

Earlier this month, Kingsbury fired three assistant coaches. Another, Mike Jinks, was named Bowling Green's head coach.
