Gophers sign 7 players for 2016, including 4 from JC

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Minnesota has replenished its roster with four junior college transfers and three early-enrollee freshmen.

All seven players will start school in January and participate in spring practices. The rest of the 2016 recruiting class will be completed Feb. 3.

The Gophers announced Wednesday that defensive tackle Merrick Jackson, offensive linemen Vincent Calhoun and Garrison Wright and cornerback Elijah Battle have signed national letters of intent. They'll have two years of eligibility left.

Quarterback Seth Green, linebacker Thomas Barber and defensive end Tai'yon Devers will be freshmen in the fall.

Green played at East Ridge High School in Woodbury before moving to Texas for his senior season. Barber played at Robbinsdale Armstrong High School in Plymouth. He's the younger brother of former Gophers standouts Marion Barber and Dominique Barber.
