'Mad Max: Fury Road' wins best picture from Chicago Film Critics

The Chicago Film Critics Association has named "Mad Max: Fury Road" best picture of 2015.

The long-awaited continuation of George Miller's post-apocalyptic action saga (following a 30-year hiatus) claimed five prizes: picture, director, cinematography, editing and art direction/production design.

"Room," the wrenching story of the loving bond between a mother and child forged under the most horrifying of circumstances, earned the best actress award for Brie Larson.

Leonardo DiCaprio was named best actor for his performance as a frontiersman battling the forces of natures in his pursuit of the man who killed his son in "The Revenant."

Benicio Del Toro received best supporting actor as a mysterious figure involved with clandestine drug stings in the thriller "Sicario."

Best supporting actress went to Alicia Vikander for her portrayal of the robot in "Ex Machina."

Best original screenplay: Tom McCarthy and Josh Singer - "Spotlight"

Best adapted screenplay: Adam McKay and Charles Randolph - "The Big Short"

Best foreign language film: "Son of Saul"

Best documentary: "Amy"

Best animated feature: "Inside Out"

Best original score: Ennio Morricone - "The Hateful Eight"

Most promising performer: Jacob Tremblay - "Room"

Most promising filmmaker: Alex Garland - "Ex Machina"
