Wright-designed home to be illuminated for Christmas

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - One of the best-preserved "Prairie Style" homes by architect Frank Lloyd Wright will be illuminated for Christmas and open to public viewing.

The Illinois Historic Preservation Agency says the Dana-Thomas House State Historic Site in Springfield will feature hundreds of candles outside and other decorations inside on Sunday evening. Decorations on a Christmas tree will include original glass tiles designed in 1897 by Wright. The Eddy Flute Choir will also perform.

Wright designed the home in 1902 for philanthropist Susan Lawrence Dana. It was completed two years later before the holidays, during which Mrs. Dana entertained families of workers.

The house on Lawrence Street in Springfield is now operated by the preservation agency.
