Police: Man sold LSD three times in Kane County

An Indiana man was being held on $75,000 bail after his arrest last week on charges he sold LSD to an undercover officer three times and planned a fourth, according to Kane County court records.

Terrance M. Smith, 30, of the 1900 block of West Boardwalk Circle, Portage, was charged Wednesday with four counts of felony possession of 15 to 200 parts of LSD with intent to deliver, records show.

Smith was arrested by members of the North Central Narcotics Task Force, a unit of the Illinois State Police.

According to court records, Smith is charged with selling 20 "hits" of LSD to an undercover officer Oct. 29.

He also has been charged with selling 23 more hits Nov. 20 and 107 hits Dec. 8, according to court records.

When arrested on Dec. 8, an additional 29 hits were seized that authorities argue were intended for a future drug deal, records show.

Messages left for State Police Master Sgt. Bill Backus, who is the executive director of the NCNTF, were not returned Friday and Monday.

Smith is next due in court Friday and must post $7,500 to be released from the Kane County jail while the case is pending.

He faces between six and 30 years in prison, without the possibility of probation, if convicted of the most severe charge.
