Palatine Township Offers Transportation Services for the Elderly, Disabled

Palatine Township offers curb to curb, low cost transportation services Monday through Friday for Township residents who are either disabled or are senior citizens (ages 65 and older).

The Township owns three vehicles that provide transportation services; two 12 passenger mini buses and a nine passenger van. The first pick-up of the day is at 8:15 a.m., with the first appointment time at 9:00 a.m. The last pick-up of the day is at 3:00 p.m.

"Making it to doctor appointments and other obligations are that much more difficult during the winter months; many times senior citizens who still drive will put their cars away due to hazardous road conditions," said Palatine Township Supervisor Sharon Langlotz-Johnson. "We want to remind both seniors and those who are disabled that they can utilize transportation services offered by the Township."

Passengers must sign up for the program at the Palatine Township building, located at 721 S. Quentin Road in Palatine. The fee is $2.50 each way and an attendant can ride for free.

Reservations are required, and should be made a minimum of three business days in advance, and up to six months in advance. The ideal hours to make a reservation are between 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

Langlotz-Johnson said that individuals can call for a coupon and get their first ride (round trip) for free.

Taxi vouchers are also provided, which are good for $4 off the metered fare.

Special shopping trips are also held every other Monday where riders are taken to area malls such as Woodfield, Randhurst, Deer Park, Kohl's and Trader Joe's.

The Palatine Township boundaries are Wilke Road to the east, Hunting Boulevard to the west, Lake Cook Road to the north and Central Road to the south.
