German industrial production edges up in October

BERLIN (AP) - Industrial production in Germany, Europe's biggest economy, edged higher in October after two months of declines but fell short of expectations.

The Economy Ministry said Monday that production rose 0.2 percent compared with September, a figure that was held down by lower energy production. That followed drops of 1.1 percent in September and 0.6 percent in August.

On Friday, official data showed that factory orders - a key indicator for the economy - rebounded in October, increasing by 1.8 percent after three months of declines and beating projections.

The government expects the economy to grow by 1.7 percent this year and 1.8 percent in 2016.
