Aurora man charged with armed robbery

An Aurora man has been charged with robbing a clerk of a Naperville 7-Eleven store at gunpoint early Saturday, police said.

Gerald G. Norris, 21, of the 200 block of Gregory Street, faces two felony counts of aggravated robbery, police said.

Naperville police were called about 2:49 a.m. on a report of an armed robbery at the store on the 1600 block of north Route 59. Arriving officers learned that the suspect had fled the store, police said.

The clerk told investigators a man had entered the store, showed a handgun and took an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes, police said. The clerk, who was not injured, also provided a description of the man and his clothing.

Officers sent the information to Naperville police and surrounding law enforcement agencies.

Shortly after, an Aurora police officer spotted a vehicle near Gregory Drive and Commons Road whose driver appeared to match the description, police said.

Based on information obtained during the traffic stop, police said Norris, the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, then was taken into custody.
