Allegro Community Chorus presents Winter Concert

Allegro Community Chorus presents Pure Imagination, a winter concert, on Friday, December 18. The performance will be held at 7:30pm at Cutting Hall Performing Arts Center, 150 E. Wood Street, Palatine.

Under the direction of three-time Illinois Council of Orchestras honoree Kevin Kelly, Allegro will serenade the community with music from across the choral spectrum, including music for the holidays. The first half of the program includes well-known songs from Willy Wonka, Sweet Charity, and The Wiz; "The Road Not Taken" from Randall Thompson's Frostiana; the spiritual "Soon Ah Will Be Done"; and a few of Aaron Copland's Old American songs.

The second half of the performance will be filled with holiday cheer, including familiar favorites "The Christmas Song," "White Christmas," "My Favorite Things" and more. Additional choices will include a few novelties and Marta Keen's lovely "Homeward Bound" performed by the Allegro women.

The Allegro Winter Concert will feature the following chorus members (*indicates members of Allegretto Concert Choir): Sopranos CiCi Bailey*, Janora Barlett, Gabi Blum*, Carol Buck, Nora Euker, Felicity Gorham*, Judy Greenwald, Jacqui Kotula, Phyllis Lakofka*, Eileen Mitchell, Marilyn Russo, and Barb Wever*; Altos Alex Boldt, Vicki Byrd*, Patt Carmody, Deb Cross*, Patience Falk*, Carrol Hercules*,

Jackie Leo, Donna Lin, Jenni Mieszala*, Kumi Nagaya*, Lori Schmidt*, and Melody Wolf; Tenors Rick Hollander*, Ginny Millar, Andy Platt*, Julie Price, and Mike Zawacke*; and Frank Lakofka, Dick Mitchell,

Jim Ray*, Denny Schackter, and Tim Schmidt* singing Bass. The Allegro Accompanist is Vicki Sowinski, and Allegro is managed by Patt Carmody.

Allegro Community Choir is designed for the singer with limited choral experience. Auditions are not necessary, and all are welcome. Rehearsals will be held on Wednesdays from 7:00pm to 8:30pm beginning January 20. Newly formed in 2015, the Concert Choir is for the singer with some previous choral experience and basic sight reading abilities. Music selections will be tailored to fit the choir and to encourage musical growth among its members. Rehearsals will be held on Wednesdays from 8:30pm to 9:15pm beginning January 27. Auditions for the Concert Choir will be offered for new singers the week of January 18. Approval of the Artistic Director is required to enroll in the Concert Choir, and all choirs are subject to change at the discretion of the Artistic Director. The Winter/Spring session of Allegro will culminate with a spring concert on Friday, April 29 at 7:30pm at Cutting Hall Performing Arts Center, 150 E. Wood Street, Palatine, Illinois.

To learn more about the musical opportunities offered through the Allegro Community Chorus, those interested in singing are invited to attend a Meet and Greet on Wednesday, January 13 at 7:00pm at Emmett's Brewing Company, 110 N. Brockway Street, Palatine. Those in attendance will have the opportunity to enjoy appetizers while meeting members of Allegro, Palatine Park District staff, and the new Artistic Director of Allegro, Kevin Kelly. A cash bar will be available.
