Big MSL openers for Barrington's Hasanov, BG's Duenser

Barrington senior Abby Hasanov and Buffalo Grove senior Diandra Duenser are off to fine starts in Mid-Suburban League girls gymnastics after Wednesday's meet hosted by the Fillies.

Hasanov won each event, including floor exercise with a 9.90, as Barrington prevailed 145.95-136.35.

Hasanov's other scores were 9.75 (vault), 9.4 (uneven bars) and 9.6 (beam) for an all-around total of 38.65.

Duenser was sharpest on balance beam (9.5) and floor (9.65), finishing second in both. She also was second in the all-around at 37.1.

Palatine d. Wheeling: The host Pirates had a different winner in each discipline on the way to a 132.4-116.45 victory.

Abigail Amato and Kara Ure won vault (9.0), Kristen Ure won beam (9.0), Callee Aikman won uneven bars (8.55) and Kara Ure won floor exercise (8.5).

Kara Ure took all-around with a 33.6 total.
