How to take a great photo of your holiday lights

So you want to enter the Daily Herald's 2015 Holiday Lights Contest? Great. But there's just one problem: You can't seem to take a good photo of your display.

If you use a flash, your dazzling lights don't show up. But if you turn the flash off, the picture is blurry.

What's the solution?

Watch this tutorial by Night Photo Editor Patrick Kunzer. He'll show you some of the tricks the pros use to produce the great images you see in the Daily Herald every day.

Once you've taken a fantastic photo of your lights, submit it by Dec. 11 at dailyherald.com/contest/holidaylights.

This year's winner, who will be determined by online votes, will receive a Toro Power Clear 721 QZE snowblower with a suggested retail price of $779.

One random entrant will win a drawing for a Toro Power Clear 518 ZE snowblower with a suggested retail price of $439.

Voting starts Dec. 14. Winners will be notified by Dec. 21.
