Prosecutor: Abuse victim couldn't identify accused commander

CHICAGO (AP) - Cook County prosecutors say the alleged victim of an assault by a Chicago police commander failed to identify his alleged assailant in a photo array.

Assistant State's Attorney Lauren Freeman on Monday told a judge that Rickey Williams also misidentified four other people allegedly involved in the 2013 incident.

Cmdr. Glenn Evans is charged with aggravated battery and official misconduct for allegedly shoving the barrel of his gun down Williams' throat and threatening to kill him.

Evans was patrolling in the Park Manor neighborhood because of a shooting when he said he saw Williams holding a handgun while standing near a bus stop.

Williams has denied being armed, saying Evans' stare unnerved him and caused him to run.

Prosecutors allege Evans tackled Williams, stuck his gun in Williams' mouth while demanding the gun's location. No gun was recovered.
