Sheriff investigating 'suspicious deaths' of Beach Park mother, son

A person of interest is in custody in connection with what Lake County sheriff's officials are calling the "suspicious deaths" of a Beach Park woman and her teenage son.

Sheriff's deputies who were called to a home on the 10200 block of West Bairstow Avenue about 2:45 a.m. Sunday found Lailani Uy Trejo, 43, and Patrick K. Cruz Uy, 14, dead inside with "obvious signs of significant trauma to their bodies," according to a statement from Sheriff's Det. Christopher Covelli.

Three others also were inside the home, including a man who was a witness and 68-year-old woman who was taken to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan with nonlife-threatening injuries, Covelli said. She was treated and released, he said.

A second man inside the home was taken to the sheriff's office's criminal investigations division as a person of interest, he said.

An investigation is ongoing, and autopsies for Trejo and Uy are scheduled for Monday morning.
