STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) - Freshman Teaira McCowan scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead No. 8 Mississippi State over Mississippi Valley 109-37 on Tuesday night.

Mississippi State (3-0) led 59-14 at halftime and pushed that advantage to 80-18 late in the third quarter before Mississippi Valley (0-4) scored eight straight points.

It was the second double-double of McCowan's young career. The 6-foot-7 center grabbed five offensive rebounds.

Six Mississippi State players scored in double figures, led by a career-high 20 points by Kayla Nevitt. LaKaris Salter added 15 points and Victoria Vivians had 14.

Mississippi Valley was led by 15 points from Christina Reed. The Delta Devils were plagued by 34 turnovers.

Mississippi State's bench scored 72 points. The Bulldogs shot 45 of 91 (49.5 percent) from the field and outrebounded Mississippi Valley 55-25.

No. 14 FLORIDA STATE 80, NORTH FLORIDA 28

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Adut Bulgak scored 19 points with seven rebounds and Shakayla Thomas finished with 14 points, nine boards and four assists to help Florida State beat North Florida.

Brittany Brown added 11 points and five assists for Florida State (3-1) while Ivey Slaughter had 10 points, eight rebounds and six assists.

Florida State outscored North Florida 29-5 in the first quarter and held the Ospreys to just 12 first-half points, the fewest the Seminoles have allowed in a half since limiting Prairie View A&M to 10 on Nov. 17, 2013.

North Florida made just 5 of 25 field goals, including 1 of 12 from 3-point range, and committed 10 turnovers in the first half.

Florida State recorded 14 assists on 17 first-half field goals while shooting 55 percent before the break.

Hadley Kiefer led North Florida (1-4) with eight points.
