Bears' Fox isn't making Broncos game a personal one

Even after winning 46 regular-season games and four AFC West titles in the previous four years as the Broncos' head coach, John Fox of the Chicago Bears found himself persona non grata in Denver because of what general manager John Elway considered early exits in the postseason.

But if the Sunday's game vs. the Broncos holds any special feelings for Fox, he's not making them public.

"Yeah, it was a good run," Fox said. "I was there four years. I thank (owner) Mr. (Pat) Bowlen for the opportunity. Now, my life's changed, and I'm here. It's a big game for both teams, I'm sure. I know it is for us and, like all games, we're looking forward to it."

Less than three weeks ago, when the Bears were 2-5 and the Broncos were 7-0, this game was projected to be an easy Denver victory. But the Bears are coming off back-to-back road wins. The Broncos have dropped two straight and, at least this week, have lost the NFL's all-time passing yardage leader in Peyton Manning, who won't play because of foot and rib injuries.

Fox says the past will not affect his approach this week, and it doesn't make this game more important than any other.

"A lot goes into (all) these games," Fox said. "Regardless of the opponent, you always put (in) a lot of time and have a lot of people working hard - players, coaches, staff. It's an opportunity for us to get to .500. We're not real excited about our record, but we've got a chance to adjust it this week."

Bears players say Fox isn't making Sunday's game personal.

"I don't see it," cornerback Tracy Porter said. "They may be hiding it from us as well, so I can't really tell you if he's more excited about this game than the next. He's coming out the same - a cool, calm, collected, fun-to-be-around coach. Same atmosphere that we've always had, wanting to be competitive. We just want to continue doing what we've done the past two weeks."

Injury report:

Linebacker Pernell McPhee (knee) and wide receiver Eddie Royal did not practice. Both missed last week's game.

Running back Matt Forte (knee), wide receiver Alshon Jeffery (groin/shoulder), linebacker Shea McClellin (knee), safety Antrel Rolle (ankle) and center Hroniss Grasu (neck) were limited. Offensive linemen Matt Slauson (ankle/elbow) and Jermon Bushrod (shoulder) were full participants.

He's back:

Cornerback Terrance Mitchell, who was waived on Tuesday, was re-signed to the practice squad. He played briefly in five games as an extra defensive back and on special teams.
