Teen accused of DUI in fatal crash pleads not guilty

BENTON, Ill. (AP) - A 17-year-old in southern Illinois has pleaded not guilty to aggravated DUI in a crash that killed another teenager.

The Southern newspaper in Carbondale reports (http://bit.ly/1WZUrBK) that Benton High School student Clay Kelley entered the plea Wednesday. He was accompanied by his attorney and several family members at a hearing in a Franklin County courtroom.

Kelley is accused of driving a truck into a tree and a mobile home, then fleeing the scene along with two other teens. The Oct. 24 crash left 17-year-old Isaiah Snowden dead.

Kelley was charged as an adult. He turns 18 on Dec. 12.

Franklin County Sheriff Donald Jones has said additional charges are possible, and investigators are gathering information on whether adults may have illegally provided alcohol to the teenagers involved.
