Gilberts is the kind of place you need to explore to really get a feel for.

It's easy to miss if you're speeding along Route 72, a small community of about 7,000 where people move to when they want to escape the bustle of larger suburbs.

It offers housing stock appealing to all tastes, from historic homes to modern ones. There are unexpected gems like a charming post office and quirky ones like a rock commemorating a visit by then - presidential candidate George H.W. Bush. There might be only one school in town, but it's state-of-the-art one built in 2007.

Certainly a place worth taking a look around - and remembering.

Look for a new "Icons of ..." town gallery every Sunday at dailyherald.com/galleries and on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. On our social media sites, share your favorite Gilberts photos with us by using #shareyoursuburb.

And tell us what photos are your favorites. Which ones stir a memory for you? Where do you love to go in town?

In the meantime, here's "Icons of Gilberts."
